Ross Perot has made a vast number of charts readily available on his his website Perot Charts, but, today, I would like to point out the chart detailing Composition of 2007 Federal Spending.
Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid total 42% of the spending while Defense accounts for 20% of 2007 federal spending – that’s 62% combined. I have a solution. It seems rather obvious, to me. Obviously, 62% is a large chunk of spending, so any means by which we can reduce that number is desirable. So, why not let old people take care of defending the nation?
By utilizing such a strategy, we would be combining our three costliest segments of spending into one super plan to reduce the national debt. Afterall, old people are the ones who got us into the mess we’re in, right? They’ve been here the longest, so they should be best suited to defend against whatever it is we need to be defended against, especially with all that medication they’re taking.
Furthermore, if there are casualties, at least we would be reducing spending on Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid. Also, for those old foggies that successfully return from defending us from ourselves (I mean… no, that’s what I meant), there would be a shorter period of time needed to allocate to such things as veterans benefits. Heck, a number of them are probably veterans already. Why create new veterans when we already have a large batch of them resting up at home?
